OpenLab has been founded in 2008 with the scope to bring new and innovative ideas towards the way we design spaces. The mission is to achieve a clear understanding of how we use, interact and consume the space from house planning to ships, cruises and satelites. Here we look in-depth into nature, the ‘if’s’ and ‘how’s’ of the planets and the ‘do’s’ of the of the man. The evolution of thought, our actions and nature’s secrets are also analysed with the aim to narrow the gap between achievement and betterment, where man stands at its core to develop, secure and future the world.
The OpenLab most researched product is the BlobHouse Model which took us 2 years of continuous prototyping and it is still being developed as part of the satelite 2020 program.
The concept was to bring the most used parts of our life routine such as LIVE, WORK &GREEN under the same roof, to cross-programme living, working and green spaces to achieve better life quality.
While researching we have discovered better use of space planning for ceilings.
The Green Wharf Project was looking at London and how to change the existing towers to accommodate greener life. We’ve looked at CentrePoint and we’ve proposed a live-work-shop-spring.
The Genotype was looking into how people interact into space. We traced actions and behaviours.
The ClusterShell was researching the Berlin’s Tempelhoff airport for master planning .
The Genotype4 was researching people movement through space.
